Preparing Chat Evidence for Your Lawyer: A Checklist
A lawyer can do more with a clean, complete export than with a folder of screenshots. This checklist covers what to gather before the meeting. It is general information, not legal advice.
Not legal advice. This page is general information. Whether a court admits or relies on a chat is for the court; convokeep does not promise admission or any outcome. Ask a qualified lawyer about your case.
What should I bring?
- The untouched export file of each relevant chat.
- The phone or account the chat lives on.
- A readable PDF of the relevant period.
- A list of who the people in the chat are.
- A short timeline of the events the messages relate to.
Should I give them everything or only the relevant part?
Bring the full export and a PDF of the relevant period. Your lawyer decides what to use. Keeping the full export lets you show the whole thread if someone says you picked only part of it.
What should I not do?
Do not delete messages, edit the exported file or ask the other person to delete anything. Do not access someone else's phone or account without permission: that can create separate problems, so ask your lawyer first.
How do I make the PDF?
Follow Export a WhatsApp chat for submission, then use the convokeep app in Record mode. Redaction hides sensitive messages; the hidden text is removed from the PDF text as well.
What will my lawyer ask me?
Probably how and when you exported, whether anything was deleted, who has had access to the phone, and whether the other party might dispute the messages. Write those answers down now.
Privacy
Reading the file, building the PDF and calculating hashes all happen in your browser. No chat or attachment is uploaded and there is no account. See the privacy policy and the disclaimer.

Ready to try it?
Drop your exported chat file on the convokeep app for a free preview. The first 3 pages are free (watermarked, no integrity page); saving the full PDF is a one-time paid feature. No chat or attachment is uploaded: the file is read in your browser. To check later that a file is unchanged, use the hash checker.
