Divorce Case KakaoTalk Chats, Handling Spouse and Family Chats

In the middle of a divorce or custody dispute, it is easy to screenshot everything in a rush. This page only covers calmly organizing chats you took part in yourself.

Not legal advice. This page is general information. Whether a court admits or relies on a chat is for the court; convokeep does not promise admission or any outcome. Ask a qualified lawyer about your case. In Korea, for example, you can also ask the Korea Legal Aid Corporation (☎132).

Which chats should I organize?

The parts relevant to the case of chats you took part in yourself with your spouse or family. Fix the periods that matter, such as childcare, living expenses or things that were agreed, and choose those date ranges.

What about conversations I was not part of?

Material obtained by secretly opening someone else's device or account can raise separate legal problems. Always talk to a lawyer before using such material. convokeep does not recommend that use.

What if my children or third parties appear in the chat?

It is better not to hand over personal information about children or third parties beyond what is needed. You can black out unrelated messages, and blacked-out text is also removed from the PDF's text.

Should I not edit anything?

Do not edit the exported original file. Build the redacted or date-limited PDF separately, and it is a good idea to keep your own record of what you blacked out.

How does the court see it?

Admission and weight are decided by the court case by case. Follow your lawyer or the court's guidance on the format to submit.
