Export a WhatsApp Chat on Android: Detailed Steps
This page goes deeper on the Android export than the general guide. Menu names vary by app version and phone.
Not legal advice. This page is general information. Whether a court admits or relies on a chat is for the court; convokeep does not promise admission or any outcome. Ask a qualified lawyer about your case.
What are the steps on Android?
Open the chat, tap the three-dot menu, choose More, then Export chat, and pick Without media or Include media. The official page we opened describes More options > Export chat > all messages or a custom date range > Export (checked 2026-10-29), so your screen may differ. Follow what you see.
Which option should I choose?
Without media is smaller and covers more messages; with media is a .zip and is capped lower on our existing guide. Choose with media only if you need the files.
Where does the file go?
Wherever you chose in the share sheet: Drive, email, Files or Downloads. If you cannot find it, check the app you shared to, then the Downloads folder.
What is missing from an export?
Per the official page, view-once and disappearing messages are not exported, and exports cannot be re-imported. Treat it as a reading copy.
What if the export fails or is cut short?
Try without media, update the app, or export in date ranges if your version offers them. A very long chat may be capped, so check the oldest date in the file against what you expect.
What next?
Move the file to a computer, keep an untouched original, and work on a copy. Note the date and the phone you exported from. A SHA-256 recorded right after export can be compared later (see what a hash proves).
Privacy
Reading the file, building the PDF and calculating hashes all happen in your browser. No chat or attachment is uploaded and there is no account. See the privacy policy and the disclaimer.

- WhatsApp Help Center, "How to export your chat history": https://faq.whatsapp.com/1180414079177245 (opened; the text we received described one export flow (More options > Export chat > all messages or a date range) with ZIP output, no view-once or disappearing messages, and no re-import, and it did not separate iPhone from Android or give media limits. The 40,000 / 10,000 message limits on our existing guide could not be re-confirmed on that page).
Ready to try it?
Drop your exported chat file on the convokeep app for a free preview. The first 3 pages are free (watermarked, no integrity page); saving the full PDF is a one-time paid feature. No chat or attachment is uploaded: the file is read in your browser. To check later that a file is unchanged, use the hash checker.
