Export a WhatsApp Chat on iPhone: Detailed Steps
This page goes deeper on the iPhone export than the general guide: what to tap, where the file lands, what to check, and what to do next.
Not legal advice. This page is general information. Whether a court admits or relies on a chat is for the court; convokeep does not promise admission or any outcome. Ask a qualified lawyer about your case.
What are the steps on iPhone?
Menu names vary by app version, so follow what your screen shows. The usual route: open the chat, tap the contact or group name at the top, scroll to Export Chat, choose Without Media or Attach Media, then pick where to save it (Files, Mail, or a cloud drive). The official help page we opened describes the flow as More options > Export chat, so your version may differ (checked 2026-10-29).
Without Media or Attach Media?
Without media gives a smaller file and covers more messages. Attach media only if you need the files themselves. If you attach media you get a .zip; without it, a text file. Our general guide lists the message-count caps we have documented; we could not re-confirm them on the official page this time.
Where does the file go?
Wherever you chose in the share sheet. Saving to Files puts it in the location you pick (On My iPhone or iCloud Drive). Mail attaches it to a message. Name it with the export date so you can find it later.
What does the export not include?
The official page says view-once and disappearing messages are not exported, and exported chats cannot be re-imported. That means the export is a reading copy, not a backup.
How do I move it to a computer?
Email it to yourself, put it in a cloud drive, or use AirDrop to a Mac or a USB cable. Then keep one untouched original and work on a copy.
Does a hash help?
Calculate the file's SHA-256 right after export and note it. A matching hash later shows the file is unchanged since you recorded it. It does not show nothing was deleted before the export. See what a SHA-256 hash proves.
Privacy
Reading the file, building the PDF and calculating hashes all happen in your browser. No chat or attachment is uploaded and there is no account. See the privacy policy and the disclaimer.

- WhatsApp Help Center, "How to export your chat history": https://faq.whatsapp.com/1180414079177245 (opened; the text we received described one export flow (More options > Export chat > all messages or a date range) with ZIP output, no view-once or disappearing messages, and no re-import, and it did not separate iPhone from Android or give media limits. The 40,000 / 10,000 message limits on our existing guide could not be re-confirmed on that page).
Ready to try it?
Drop your exported chat file on the convokeep app for a free preview. The first 3 pages are free (watermarked, no integrity page); saving the full PDF is a one-time paid feature. No chat or attachment is uploaded: the file is read in your browser. To check later that a file is unchanged, use the hash checker.
