WhatsApp Group Chat Evidence: Keep and Present It

A group chat mixes your conversation with other people's messages and unrelated topics. This page covers what to keep and how to present it without distorting it.

Not legal advice. This page is general information. Whether a court admits or relies on a chat is for the court; convokeep does not promise admission or any outcome. Ask a qualified lawyer or a local advice service about your case.

Can I export a whole group chat?

WhatsApp exports a chat as a text file from the chat's menu; see the export guide. What the file contains depends on your phone and app version, so open the file and check it before relying on it.

What should I note down about the group?

Write down the group name, the date you exported, who the members are as you know them, and the date range you need. Members join and leave, and display names can change, so a note made at export time is worth having.

What about other people's privacy?

Group chats contain other people's names, numbers and messages. Think about whether you need to share all of it, and whether parts should be redacted. Show that you redacted, and keep the unredacted original.

How do I show only the relevant stretch?

Choose a date range that starts before and ends after the messages that matter, so questions and answers stay together. See how to share only part of a chat fairly.

Does a hash show who sent a message?

No. A hash shows a file is unchanged since it was exported. It does not show who wrote a message, or that nothing was deleted before the export. See what a SHA-256 hash proves.

The file is read and the PDF is built in your browser. No chat or attachment is uploaded and there is no account. Hashing happens locally too. Read the privacy policy and the disclaimer.

Ready to try it?

Drop your exported chat file on the convokeep app for a free preview. The first 3 pages are free (watermarked, no integrity page); saving the full PDF is a one-time paid feature. No chat or attachment is uploaded: the file is read in your browser. To check later that a file is unchanged, use the hash checker.
