Exporting KakaoTalk Chats on Android, Detailed Step-by-Step Guide

The steps for exporting a KakaoTalk chat from an Android phone, in detail. A comparison across devices is in the combined guide.

Not legal advice. This page is general information. Whether a court admits or relies on a chat is for the court; convokeep does not promise admission or any outcome. What is needed differs by case, so check with a lawyer or the Korea Legal Aid Corporation (☎132).

In what order do I export on Android?

  1. Open the chat room and tap the menu (≡).
  2. Tap Export chat.
  3. Choose Text only. Options that include photos or videos make the file much larger.
  4. Choose where to send it, such as email, a cloud drive or send to yourself.

Menu names may differ slightly by app version and device model.

I cannot find where it was saved

If you chose a drive or email on the share screen, you can find the file in that app. If you saved to a file manager, it is usually in the Downloads folder or the folder you chose. Open the file you received and check that the chat is visible.

The email does not arrive or I get a size error

Check your spam folder and try again with Text only. If the chat is very long, you can consider exporting it several times in separate periods. Check in the app whether files exported in parts can be combined into one record.

What do I do after moving it to the computer?

Do not open the file and save it after editing; leave the original as it is and work from a copy. See how to keep the original.

Does it differ by device model?

It may differ by app version, but we could not confirm model-by-model differences from an official source. Follow the names you see on your screen.

Ready to try it?

Drop your exported .txt file on the convokeep app for a free preview. The first 3 pages are free (watermarked, no integrity page); saving the full PDF is a one-time paid feature. No chat or attachment is uploaded: the file is read in your browser. To check later that a file is unchanged, use the hash checker.
