Telegram Chat Export for Submission: What to Export and Keep

Telegram can export your chat history from the desktop app. This page covers what to keep and check when the export may be shown to a lawyer or court. The step-by-step export is on the Telegram export guide.

Not legal advice. This page is general information. Whether a court admits or relies on a chat is for the court; convokeep does not promise admission or any outcome. Ask a qualified lawyer about your case.

Where do I export from?

Telegram's export tool is in the desktop app and lets you save chats as JSON or formatted HTML. Telegram's announcement (opened 2026-10-29) describes Settings > Export Telegram data for several chats, or the "…" menu in a chat > Export chat history for one chat. Menu names differ by version, so follow what your screen shows. See our step-by-step guide.

Which format should I keep?

Keep the original export folder as it came out, including both HTML and JSON if you made both, and work from a copy. convokeep reads Telegram exports; check the Telegram to PDF page for supported formats.

What about secret chats?

Telegram's FAQ (opened 2026-10-29) says secret chats are not part of the Telegram cloud and can only be accessed on their devices of origin, so they may not appear in a desktop export. The FAQ does not describe the export tool, so check Telegram's help.

Will a court accept it?

That is for the court. We make no admissibility claim. Ask your lawyer how they want chat material presented.

Can I prove the file is unchanged?

Record the SHA-256 of the export right away and compare later. That shows the file is unchanged since; it does not show nothing was deleted before export. See what a hash proves.

What should I avoid?

Do not edit files, and do not access anyone else's account.

Privacy

Reading the file, building the PDF and calculating hashes all happen in your browser. No chat or attachment is uploaded and there is no account. See the privacy policy and the disclaimer.

Ready to try it?

Drop your exported chat file on the convokeep app for a free preview. The first 3 pages are free (watermarked, no integrity page); saving the full PDF is a one-time paid feature. No chat or attachment is uploaded: the file is read in your browser. To check later that a file is unchanged, use the hash checker.
